Retail Industry Update

After a rough few years, it seems like we are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. After finishing 2010 with 10 consecutive months of private sector employment gains, several reports are out that show the momentum should continue in 2011.

According to a recent Manpower study, the US shows the most promising hiring outlook in more than two years. Of the more than 18,000 employers surveyed, 14% anticipate an increase in staff levels in their Quarter 1 2011 hiring plans. Of the retailers surveyed, more than 10% are expecting an increase in hiring in the first quarter.

More good news in the retail sector comes from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) who recently released their 2011 Job Outlook Survey. With especially high increases in college hiring from retailers, retail organizations stand out as "best bets" for bachelor's degree level candidates for the class of 2011.

All of this is excellent news considering the retail industry accounts for one in five American workers.
